5 Battery Sizing Mistakes Installers Still Make

Battery storage is now part of most residential solar conversations, but sizing is still frequently done by rule of thumb. The result is either an oversized system the customer did not need, or an undersized one that disappoints on the first cloudy week.

1. Ignoring the load profile

Daily kWh is not enough. When the energy is used matters as much as how much.

2. Forgetting future loads

EV chargers, heat pumps and pool pumps change the picture. Ask about the next five years, not just the last bill.

3. Overlooking solar generation

A battery can only store what the array produces beyond daytime use.

4. No audit trail

If a customer questions the recommendation, you need the inputs and assumptions on record.

5. Quoting outside the CRM

Sizing in a separate spreadsheet means the numbers never make it cleanly into the proposal.
